We are excited to invite you to join us for our upcoming Board of Directors Trainings! We are offering two different trainings this year; however, there may be some slight overlap as topics tend to relate to one another. Please see below for more information about each training.

Join Attorney Eileen Eakins for a full-day training tailored to special district board members and management staff. Eileen will provide a comprehensive overview of laws and regulations governing Oregon’s special districts and the public officials that represent them. It is essential training for newly elected board members and newly appointed management staff, but even experienced individuals will benefit from this training.

All trainings will be from 9:00am-3:30pm with check in beginning at 8:30am.

Each SDAO member district is eligible to receive their first registration at no cost. Please use code BDMST24 at time of registration for this discount. Due to limited scholarships, we cannot guarantee this discount and are offering it on a first come, first served basis.

*Please note, we will only be accepting payment by credit card through the registration site. Need to pay by check? Please submit your payment with a completed paper registration form. Registration will be complete upon receipt of payment and form. If are registering multiple individuals, please complete a form for each registrant.

  • Board Leadership/Fire District Directors Academy: Module 1: Powers and Protections, Roles and Responsibilities, Ordinances and Resolutions, Public Meetings. Module 2: Public Records, Public Contracting, Local Budgeting and Finance
  • SDAO Academy: District Management: Board Relations (5 Credits), Public Meetings and Public Records (5 Credits)

Cancellations/Refunds Cancellations received five (5) business days or more prior to the event date will receive a full refund. Refunds may be processed as a check or credit back to the credit card. No shows will be charged.

Board Member Relations, Expectations and Ethics

Join SDAO Senior Consultant George Dunkel for a training covering board member relations, expectations, and ethics. A cohesive board is key to the success of a special district as well as understanding your expectations as a board member. You will leave this training with the knowledge to have strong relationships on your board and know what is expected of you. George will also cover the rules regarding ethics for public officials and help you navigate situations you may face.
