Mohawk Valley Rural Fire District is accepting applications for administrative assistant. 

 

Position Overview:
This classification is responsible for assigned administrative activities of Mohawk Valley Rural Fire District and performs a variety of assignments to support the Fire Chief in meeting immediate and long-range fiscal and operating goals.

Work responsibilities include preparation of correspondence, maintenance of forms and record-keeping systems, coordination of incoming and outgoing mail, assistance in Fire District budget preparation, assistance in Fire District’s financial management, assistance in developing and implementing Fire District policies, procedures, and programs, interpretation of Fire District policies and procedures for the public, research, and production of administrative reports. This individual will support the mission and core values of the District and abide by District policy.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Knowledge of the Fire District’s organization, functions, and activities of a Fire District;
  2. Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of modern office management;
  3. Knowledge of business English and the application of appropriate grammar, punctuation, and spelling;
  4. Knowledge of basic accounting principles and basic government budgeting procedures;
  5. Knowledge of manual and electronic record-keeping systems;
  6. Skill in communicating clearly and effectively with the public, community organizations, businesses, elected officials, and Fire District members in emergency and non-emergency situations;
  7. Skill in the application of word processing, excel spreadsheets, QuickBooks accounting software and database software;
  8. Skill in writing clear and concise reports and correspondence;
  9. Skill in analyzing problems and developing solutions;
  10. Skill in accomplishing assigned administrative functions with a minimum of supervision and with only general direction;
  11. Skill in multitasking and managing workload;
  12. Ability to exercise judgment, establish priorities and goals, maintain confidentiality, and communicate with others;
  13. Ability to make independent decisions that are consistent with appropriate policies and procedures;
  14. Ability to read, understand, interpret, and apply provisions of laws, ordinances, policies, and procedures; and
  15. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with others during critical situations.

Any combination of experience, education, and training that demonstrates the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify would include increasingly responsible experience providing administrative support to senior-level managers, education equivalent to high school graduation, and specialized training in computer software applications.
